Estee Lauder Double Wear Light Foundation Review

I've tried the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation before and it was just too thick and uncomfortable on my skin. I was perusing by their counter and stopped to try out the lighter version of this popular foundation, the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light Foundation.

Pros:
Lasts all day
Provides light-medium coverage

Cons:
There are only 6 shades available
Dries super fast so you don't have much time to blend
Somewhat thick in formula, not easy to manipulate
Suitable only for those with pink undertones

As you can see, the color that best matched me made me look like I have a light pink clown face....hence my wide-eyed clownish smile. Also, even though this foundation gives a light coverage, it still feels thick and heavy on the skin. I am glad I only tried this because I didn't like this foundation at all. I often get asked why I use certain brands of products, and this is one of the reasons why....there are lots of brands that don't cater to those of us with yellow undertones. This has always stumped me because a HUGE portion of the population has yellow undertones! That probably explains why so many women walk around wearing the wrong shade of foundation. In any case, I didn't like the consistency or the shade range of this foundation and I will definitely not be going back for more.

Kajal Couture Rating: D

Have you tried the Double Wear or Double Wear Light formulas?

  1. I hear you, sister.

Actually I would try any brand if they had my shade of foundation. I'm NW43 in MAC and I'm kind of stuck with MAC actually because Estee Lauder, Dior, Chanel and Lancome don't have my shade at all. Their "darkest" is not dark enough for me.

I don't get why these brands can't make foundation shades for people with different skintones. I'd gladly pay full price for these brands because a good foundation is so useful.

  2. I actually have a tiny bit of yellow from my medicine (or heritage, we can't figure it out) and it drives me nuts. My problem isn't just finding a tinted moisturizer with a tiny bit of yellow though. It's finding one darn pale enough. I don't know if you've ever seen a photo of me, but I'm near the "vampire" pale side. The lightest shade in a range is normally two shades too dark.

Yep, foundations and tinted moisturizers need to come in a 30 shade range I think.

  3. Yikes. . .reminds me a bit of my prom picture. I had my makeup done by estee lauder and it was not a good match. This is why I always prefer MAC.

  5. I *love* EL Double Wear foundation! I'm around NC42 and use Bronze shade in DW. I use it with a damp beauty blender and I don't find it heavy one me AND it stays put all day - only foundation that lasts all day for me!!! DW has yellow undertones to it - so do give it a try again! I tried DW Light also (I think intensity 4) and liked it ok. It had more pinkish tones than the original DW.

  6. I have both the original and the light.. They're both amazing in terms of lasting power.. But you could mix it with your foundation to make it look less cakey.. And the trick with this is to use a tiny bit for the whole face and add more where needed.. Trust me, I learnt that the hard way =P

The problem with the EL Double Wear Light is that is photogrphs really bad.. Gives you a white cast.. Not cool..
